Cybersecurity Posture Management

How do I use LISN to support cybersecurity roadmap generation?

The Cyber Strategy Center allows you to take roadmap generation and updating to a new level.

The Cyber Strategy Center’s “Cybersecurity Investment Risk Assessment” provides a domain-level view of your organization’s key improvement areas from a results perspective – focusing your investments on the things that actually matter to reducing losses. In addition, within each domain you can see the individual strategy decisions rank-ordered by priority. As you make changes to your current state and update your LISN Assessment Center baseline, the Investment Risk Assessment results automatically change, supporting updates to your roadmap. Your results can also change as LISN’s real-world data collection trends change, allowing you to automatically see how cybersecurity’s evolution impacts your strategic plans.

How do I use LISN to evaluate my critical third parties and vendors?
If you are a Tier 1 subscriber to LISN, you already have the ability to model other organizations’ compliance levels and areas of strategic weakness.

Reach out to the LISN Help Desk and request one or several Third-Party Evaluation account(s). This separate account (using a separate email from your primary account) will allow you to enter a new LISN Assessment Center baseline for a third party based on the cybersecurity posture answers, documentation, and/or compliance information they provide. LISN’s results will then give you key insights into how their approaches stack up against what’s optimal for their industry and size.
How do I use LISN to model the impacts of mergers and acquisitions?

Significant changes in headcount, organizational revenue, and number of endpoints can be modeled directly in LISN.

Within Interactive Analysis, you can simulate increases or decreases to the number of endpoints in your organization in coordination with other strategy changes to see where and how you may need to adjust your security budget. To get more broad analytics, you can temporarily adjust your LISN Assessment Center baseline to see what the post-change organization’s results. For example, change the total number of employees, the number of endpoints, the org’s total revenue, the security team’s size and leadership, and whatever other factors might shift after a merger, acquisition, or divestiture. When you’re finished, change the LISN Assessment Center baseline back to your actual current state.

We are shutting down a portion of our business and going through a reduction in force. How can LISN help me adapt our security posture?

Within Interactive Analysis you can simulate a broad range of business changes – both positive and negative – within LISN and gain key insights on the best strategies to apply. All based on real-world data and actual outcomes.

I am receiving a 10% budget increase for cybersecurity. How can LISN show me what the data says about my planned new initiatives? How can LISN show me analytics on where to increase spend?

The Cyber Strategy Center and Interactive Analysis are designed for this.

Use the Investment Risk Assessment to see what domains and strategy decisions have the strongest correlations with security success. Then use Interactive Analysis to review changes you might make, learning instantly whether they are worth increased investment or the opposite.

Executive leadership is unhappy with our cybersecurity training and awareness program. Can LISN show what alternative training methods are producing the best results for companies like mine?

Absolutely. Cybersecurity Training and Awareness is one of LISN’s most popular analytic domains.

Use Interactive Analysis to model the impacts of various training strategy adjustments based on their costs and the costs of human factors-related losses. And as mentioned above, changes to headcount and number of endpoints figure heavily into LISN’s analytics so keep those in mind as you review new strategies.

We need to improve our compliance with the NIST SP 800-171 requirements without increasing our budget. Does LISN offer support in these areas?

Yes, LISN offers direct support in this area.

Start with the Compliance Center’s listing of your estimated maturity level versus the NIST SP 800-171 requirements. Use this information to identify where compliance improvements are needed, then follow each requirement’s mapping to an investment risk level and domain. As you plan your new compliance initiatives, you can simultaneously use the Cyber Strategy Center’s Investment Risk Assessment and Interactive Analysis in each domain to maximize your compliance levels AND costs.

I'm seeing a strong outsourcing trend in a particular security area. How can LISN help me evaluate if outsourcing in a particular area is the right choice?
LISN includes many outsourcing options in its core data model, giving you immediate access to ROI information for such changes.

In Interactive Analysis, look for strategy options for third party support and/or outsourced tools/roles. Running different scenarios around such changes shows where the data indicates positive or negative value versus the median costs of such changes.
My cybersecurity program is laser focused on improvements to vulnerability management. How can LISN show which aspects should get the most attention and funding?

LISN’s Cyber Strategy Center is designed for this purpose (for Vulnerability Management and all other modeled domains).

By expanding Vulnerability Management in the Investment Risk Assessment pane (clicking the ‘plus’), you will see a prioritized list of what decision correlate with success for your organization. Then you can see spending impacts for those same choices in Interactive Analysis, showing you where to spend more than average or where to pinch pennies based on the approach’s real-world value.

We are doing well in terms of cybersecurity tools but need help with operations. How can LISN shed light on adapting our team's internal processes toward generating the best results?

Within each cybersecurity domain, LISN includes options for operational cadences and types of operations.

Within Interactive Analysis, you can move beyond tool selection to simulate changes in operations such as audit/review timeframes, internal testing cadence, compliance review schedules, inventory schedules, patching/system maintenance cadence, and more. The results show where there’s value in such changes versus where they may cost more than their worth.
